There are a few different types of unloader knee braces. All function to offload one side of the knee, which is generally arthritic. The two different types of unloader knee braces are:

  • Unloader fit (mild to moderate arthritis)
  • Unloader one (moderate to severe arthritis)

There is also a custom made version of the unloader one available if there is an unusual leg shape. These braces can be worn for heavy-duty work, walking and a variety of sports. They can be bulky, but extremely effective in reducing pain levels and avoiding/delaying the requirement for knee surgery.

Most people feel the difference the instant that they try the brace on. Our clinicians will determine the best version of the brace for your level of activity, leg shape and severity of arthritis.

This knee brace is a general knee support which provides compression and a feeling of stability. It cups the knee cap well and doesn’t cut in around the back of the knee. It fits well underneath clothing and is extremely slim line.

It doesn’t provide any side-to-side stability or limited range of motion, but is extremely beneficial for those with general knee pain.

This knee brace is used for ligamentous injuries requiring more immoblisation than a softer knee brace. It is made from a thin aluminum frame which provides extra stability.

The straps within the brace can be adjusted depending on the type of ligamentous injury. It is relatively lightweight and minimally bulky. It can be worn for functional activities including physical work and sports.

This knee brace is a slim line limited range of motion knee brace. The joint that is used can be adjusted depending on the knee range of motion required. As well as limiting range of motion, it also provides side-to-side stability.

This is used for more severe ligamentous injuries which require more restricted movement.

This knee brace is a compressive sleeve with side bars and joints. It controls swelling whilst providing side-to-side stability, which is perfect when a ligamentous injury has occurred.

The Genutrain S is a snug fit and does fit well underneath most pants. It also doesn’t limit range of motion so it is classed as a very functional knee brace.

This knee brace is used post-operatively or post-injury when NO knee movement is required. It is a wrap-around knee brace with 5 to 6 straps which secure to the knee to ensure minimal movement around the knee.

This needs to be fitted correctly as the metal uprights can be adjusted to ensure the brace doesn’t slip and functions appropriately.

This knee brace is used post-operatively or post-injury when limited movement of the knee is required. The joint that is used can be adjusted as rehabilitation progresses.
