GenuTrain Knee Brace Services
The GenuTrain is a lightweight knee brace manufactured in Germany by Bauerfeind. It features a compressive weave that offers compression and gentle stabilisation around the knee.
When a patient comes to us with knee pain or instability, we typically conduct an assessment to determine the cause of the issue. This includes reviewing any available radiology or imaging and evaluating alignment, foot posture, gait, and muscle strength around the knee.
Based on this assessment, we then select the most suitable knee brace from the many options available, taking into consideration the patient’s presenting issue and body shape. We aim to find a brace that will effectively address their specific needs.
What Types of Knee Conditions Would Benefit from using a GenuTrain?
The GenuTrain is suitable for conditions such as generalised knee pain caused by arthritis or mild injuries.
It can also be used post-injury as a brace to aid in returning to sports. It is not designed to be a heavy-duty offloading or stabilising brace, but rather a compressive sleeve that provides support and confidence for returning to physical activity.
The Genutrain Knee brace is a premium product that provides exceptional quality and durability. It is designed to provide a high level of compression and warmth, making it ideal for individuals with sore or sensitive knees.
The thick woven material offers added protection against impact, making it a popular choice among professional athletes. Despite not being a low-cost product, the Genutrain Knee brace can be an appropriate investment for those seeking knee support and protection.
How does Treatment with the Genutrain Knee Brace Work?
Step 1 – Assessment
Please book in with Orthotics Plus for an assessment.
Based on clinical examination and reviewing any relevant imaging, a knee brace may be prescribed as a treatment option. The GenuTrain and its variants (e.g. Genutrain S, Genutrain P3) knee braces are available for in-clinic trials at our clinics.
The patient’s measurements are taken and both options are evaluated to determine the most appropriate brace for the individual’s needs.
Step 2 – Prescription
Patients appropriate for a Genutrain prescription are typically experiencing mild/mid-chronic conditions rather than acute injuries. The use of a GenuTrain brace in this context is not intended as a means of fixing the condition, but rather as a form of support and stability during specific activities.
It is not a short-term solution, but rather a form of ongoing management for the patient’s comfort and confidence during activities such as basketball or walking.
Step 3 – Support from Compression
The use of compression can aid in reducing swelling in certain conditions.
Swelling is a natural response to injury, as it brings fluid and nutrients to the affected area to aid in healing. However, once the initial healing process has occurred, it is beneficial to reduce swelling as it can cause pain and limit function.
The use of compression can aid in reducing swelling and potentially increase muscle activation and function, providing support and improving the overall comfort of the injury site.
This may allow the patient to participate in increased levels of physical activity which is great from both a quality of life and rehabilitation perspective.
Step 4 – Patient Education
Patient education is an important step in the knee brace prescription process. The patient will be instructed on how to properly fit and wear the knee brace. This includes ensuring the brace is positioned correctly on the knee and is not too high or too low.
Instructions on how often the brace should be worn will depend on the patient’s condition and needs.
Additionally, instructions on how to properly care for the brace (washing the brace) should be provided to maximise its lifespan.
The GenuTrain knee braces can be dampened from sweat/water splashes but are not suitable for swimming or similar activities.
