Orthotics for Humeral Fractures

A humeral fracture orthosis is made from a thin plastic material. It wraps around the humerus and cups the shoulder joint.

It is tightly positioned around the humerus using Velcro straps and also has another strap that wraps under the opposite armpit to hold the shoulder section close to the body.

This may be worn with a collar and cuff.

Humeral Fractures Support

A humeral fracture is an injury to the upper part of the arm, between the elbow and shoulder. Humeral fractures are generally divided into three categories:

  1. A proximal humeral fracture which occurs near the shoulder joint and may affect the rotator cuff tendons of the shoulder joint
  2. A mid-shaft humeral fracture which occurs part way between the shoulder and elbow joints
  3. Distal humerus fracture which occurs near the elbow joint and is most common in children

Conservative management may include:

  • Collar and cuff
  • Plastic humeral fracture orthosis
  • Shoulder immobiliser

To determine the most appropriate treatment for you, we recommend booking an initial consultation to discuss your concerns in more detail.
